Turkish president Recap Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ben Ali Yildirim embarked the first self-driving metro in Istanbul and the country on Friday, 15/12/2017, after opening it earlier in that day.

At the official ceremony held at the Uskudar Square in Istanbul, the Turkish president opened the first self-driving metro linking the Uskudar-Umraniya-Chekmekoy districts in the Asian part of the city.

Erdogan, Yildirim, a number of ministers, the mayor of Istanbul Mouloud Oyesal, and the governor of the city, Wassib Shaheen, took a tour of the self-driving metro after the inauguration.

The first metro of its kind in Turkey will transport about 65 thousand passengers per hour, and a top speed of 80 km per hour.

The distance between the first station and another station will be 24 minutes, out of a total of 16 stations.
