Minister of Transport for Maritime Transport and Communications Ahmed Arslan stated that the construction works of the Istanbul Grand Tunnel will be launched in the next few days. The new tunnel will consist of three floors and will be constructed by means of construction, operation, and delivery.
Recently, feasibility studies have been completed, and analyzing the seabed floor, which will be built on the seaport, thus the project is ready for concrete construction.
Minister Arslan pointed out that this project is considered one of the most important projects currently because of the features included in it. The tunnel contains a line of traffic on the one hand and a train transit line on the other. It will be the first of its kind in terms of collecting two transport vehicles at the same time. The Turkish government has determined the "build-operate-delivery" method for this huge project, because the adoption of such large funding will be very difficult, given the considerable cost of tunnel construction and the simultaneous provision of three floors for cars passageways and trains.
In a related context, Minister Arslan added that the work at the third Istanbul airport is also continuing in full swing. The first runway is ready since 25 February 2018. The first section of the airport will be fully operational and the aircraft will be received from 29 October. October 2018, the full operation of Ataturk International Airport will be transferred to this section of the new airport.
